On March 17, 2016, Audi has launched the SQ8 in India which is positioned in between the normal Audi Q8 and the very aggressive Audi RS Q8. This model sits in between both variants providing a perfect blend of luxury, power, and everyday use. The SQ8 is imported as a CBU (completely built unit) and will be available as one high specification model. Therefore, it is a very exclusive option for the premium SUV buyer.
The Audi SQ8 is priced competitively for the luxury performance SUV segment, with a starting price of ₹1.78 crores (ex-showroom). Interested customers can place a booking for this vehicle by paying a token of ₹5 lakhs via the official Audi India website or the myAudi Connect app. The estimated on-road price of the SQ8 will vary across cities – estimates range from ₹2.05 crore in Delhi to around ₹2.19 crore in Bangalore to version. Limited production will be available at first since it is classified as a Completely Built Unit (CBU), but this model is expected to generate much enthusiasm amongst automobile enthusiasts and luxury automobile buyers.
Under the hood, the Audi SQ8 is powered by a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 petrol engine, delivering an impressive 507 PS (500 bhp) of power and 770 Nm of torque. This engine is essentially a slightly detuned version of the one found in the RS Q8, ensuring that the SQ8 retains thrilling performance while being more suitable for daily driving. The SUV can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.1 seconds, while its top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h. Power is delivered through an 8-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission paired with Audi’s renowned Quattro all-wheel-drive system, ensuring optimal traction and stability across different driving conditions.
In terms of design, the Audi SQ8 carries a bold and sporty appearance that distinguishes it from the standard Q8. The front fascia is dominated by a signature single-frame grille finished in matte silver, complemented by advanced HD Matrix LED headlights with laser light technology. The SUV also features sporty quad exhaust tips and comes equipped with 21-inch alloy wheels as standard, with options to upgrade to larger 22-inch or even 23-inch wheels. Its coupe-style roofline further enhances its dynamic stance, giving it a commanding road presence.
Inside the cabin, the Audi SQ8 offers a premium and driver-focused environment with a strong emphasis on sportiness. The interior follows an all-black theme and features a combination of Alcantara and leather upholstery, along with S-badged sport seats that provide both comfort and support during spirited driving. The flat-bottom steering wheel adds to the sporty feel, while the overall fit and finish reflect Audi’s commitment to luxury craftsmanship. The SUV is equipped with a dual-screen MMI infotainment setup, consisting of a 10.1-inch upper display and an 8.6-inch lower touchscreen, along with a fully digital 12.3-inch Virtual Cockpit Plus for the driver.
The technology package is further enhanced by a premium 17-speaker Bang & Olufsen 3D sound system, delivering an immersive audio experience. The Audi SQ8 is also offered in a range of eight exterior color options, including striking shades like Ascari Blue, Sakhir Gold, and Mythos Black, allowing buyers to personalize their vehicle according to their preferences. Overall, the launch of the Audi SQ8 reinforces Audi India’s focus on expanding its performance-oriented portfolio, catering to customers who seek a luxurious SUV with strong performance credentials without stepping into the more extreme RS lineup.
